Israeli Hot Wheels Endurance
The first Israeli 1/8 buggy endurance race took place at Hot Wheels Racing club on May 19, 2006. The race was designated for teams of three drivers, who took turns in driving the team’s cars to the best total score. This type of race required extensive team work, apart from driving skills.
9 teams participated in the race, including official teams of major brands. After 2 qualifying heats, the race itself started, with all teams pressing for the lead. The TQ in the qualifying was Yosi Stern, of team YS Bodies. Team 777, lead by Golan Levy took the lead, followed by team YS Bodies, with Yosi Stern, and Team GS, with Avi Yadgar.
Half an hour later, Yaniv Levy, of team GS took the lead, with a gap of three laps from the second place. The gap between the second, third and forth places was only a few seconds.
During the Seconds hour, Team Mugen managed to get to second place, but team YS Bodies kept pressing from behind. Team 777 was also fighting fiercely from behind. The fifth place was held by Hot Wheels Group, with Liran Strugano, Amit Gravier and Yoram Alkobi who pressed hard toward the forth place.
During the next hour Hot Wheels Group lost its position for Team Nitro, which held the fifth place till the end of the race.
Towards the end of the race, Team GS held a gap of about three laps from the others, which put the focus on the fight for second and third place. Oren Levy, who managed to hold the second place for Team Mugen has lost a wheel, which had cost him in valuable seconds. Team 777, at the lead, was held back because of an engine cut, which cleared the way for Team YS Bodies. Unfortunately, an engine cut at the very last lap had cost YS Bodies in the second place, which was eventually conquered by Team 777. Team YS Bodies reached third. Team Dura had the quit the race almost 20 minutes before its end, due to mehanical problems. Team D.J.I. was disqualified from the race becuse one of the drivers has quit.
